The BTL EMSella Chair
The EMSella chair, manufactured by the award-winning medical and aesthetics manufacturer BTL, is designed to help strengthened the pelvic floor muscles, giving patients back control over their bladder.
The treatment is completely painless, non-surgical and non-invasive, improving the symptoms of incontinence through a series of half hour sessions.
Unlike many other non-surgical incontinence treatments, it is completely non-invasive and can be undergone whilst completely clothed and therefore with no embarrassment or discomfort.
The EMSella chair uses HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) frequencies to specifically target the pelvic floor muscles and muscles at the ‘neck’ of the bladder.
These frequencies cause the muscles to contract and release, much like traditional kegel exercises. However, unlike with kegel exercises, the EMSella chair brings about 11,000 kegels per 30 minute treatment session, creating an incredible and effective workout for your pelvic floor.
The EMSella treatment is incredibly effective, this is because it causes the pelvic floor muscles to contract to what is known as the ‘supramaximal level’.
As this treatment directly targets muscles in the pelvic floor and doesn’t require neuromuscular control (as in if you were doing the exercises consciously), they contract far more than they would with traditional kegel exercises. This means that the results from this treatment are highly effective and far beyond what could be achieved with traditional kegel exercises alone.
This treatment also triggers the body’s natural processes, which produce new muscle fibres and proteins.
This strengthens and tones the pelvic floor and bladder muscles and also improves neuromuscular control, which will in turn greatly reduce the symptoms of urge incontinence.
We usually recommend a course of 6 treatments to see optimum results from this treatment, with some patients reporting highly effective results from the very first treatment alone. We understand that not all patients will be dry after just 6 sessions, this is why we offer a further set of 6 sessions (if required), at no further cost. We are the only clinic in the UK to offer this.
What Is Incontinence?
Incontinence is a common condition and is estimated to affect six million people in the UK, and many millions worldwide, yet we find it difficult to talk about our bladders and over half of us will not even see our GP’s.
At Body Lipo Lincoln, we strive to break the silence about intimate health. Louise White our clinical lead & her husband Marcus are industry leaders in the field of intimate health and wellbeing. We offer a wide selection of medical technologies to treat vaginal laxity and incontinence. We treat clients across Lincolnshire, The East Midlands and surrounding areas.
The pelvic floor is responsible for supporting our pelvic organs, bowl, uterus and bladder. It often becomes weak after childbirth, aging and menopause as we produce less oestrogen and collagen or even due to excessive exercise. Some pelvic region surgeries, such as hysterectomies and illnesses like hooping cough can also have a dramatic effect on our continence. As the pelvic floor becomes weak it does not offer the same support to your bladder so as you laugh, cough, sneeze or exercise the pelvic floor will bounce with the pressure allowing your bladder to fall back and cause leakage and difficulty holding urine for long periods of time.
There are many reasons incontinence may occur, with the 3 most common types being: urge, stress and mixed. Urinary incontinence leads to significant discomfort, embarrassment and the loss of freedom and independence, particularly when away from home or easy access to bathrooms. It is common for those suffering from incontinence to have to plan their days out around managing their symptoms, including needing to constantly know where the nearest toilet is, whether you have enough pads with you or even what kind of clothes you can wear. Incontinence can also affect sufferers ability to partake in their hobbies or other things they enjoy doing, like social activities or sports.
There are 3 common types of urinary incontinence, urge, stress and mixed. There are a variety of reasons each form of incontinence may manifest, and they all can lead to significant discomfort, embarrassment or loss of freedom and independence. For many sufferers of incontinence, when you go out, you may have to plan your day around managing your symptoms, including where the nearest toilet is at all times, whether you have enough pads and what kind of clothes you should wear. It can also stop people from taking part in their hobbies and the things they enjoy doing, like sports and social activities.
The Three Types of Incontinence
The three frequently seen forms of stress incontinence are called stress, urge and mixed. The BTL EMSella is very effective at treating all of these types of incontinence, with unparalleled results.
Stress incontinence is the first and most common form of incontinence. This form is characterised by symptoms such as difficulty holding urine when the bladder is put under physical strain, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, jumping or lifting heavy objects.
Stress incontinence comes about when the pelvic floor muscles and also the muscles at the ‘neck’ of the bladder are weakened, most often naturally as we age. As collagen is lost during the aging process, muscles in the body weaken and lose their tone, including those in the pelvic floor.
Stress incontinence is also commonly caused by vaginal childbirth. This is unsurprising, as during childbirth, the muscles in the vaginal area are put under significant strain. Although generally regular continence is restored after about six weeks to three months after childbirth, sometimes in cases where birth was particularly long, complex or difficult, multiple vaginal births or due to larger babies, continence may not return naturally and may need intervention to be restored.
The second form, urge incontinence, occurs when the detrusor muscles in the wall of the bladder don’t contract and extend in the way they naturally should. What should happen is that the detrusor muscles expand when the bladder fills and contract as it empties. However, when suffering from urge incontinence, the detrusor muscles do not contract as they should and instead contract irregularly. This causes the sensation of needing to urinate, even if the bladder isn’t full, is empty or nearly empty. This is also commonly known as an ‘overactive bladder’.
The third form of incontinence is known as ‘mixed’. This form occurs when symptoms of both the previously mentioned forms are present, both stress and urge. This can be caused by a range of reasons, including any of the conditions or reasonings for urge or stress incontinence.
Types of Incontinence
There are three common types of incontinence, Stress, Urge and Mixed. The BTL Emsella is effective to treat all three with unparalleled result.
Stress incontinence is the most common form of incontinence, and is characterised by a difficulty holding urine when the bladder is put under physical strain, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, jumping or lifting heavy objects.
Stress incontinence occurs when the pelvic floor muscles and the muscles at the neck of the bladder become weakened. For many sufferers, this is caused by the muscles naturally weakening as we age. As collagen is lost, muscles all over the body weaken and lose tone, and the pelvic floor muscles are no exception.
Stress incontinence can also be caused by vaginal childbirth, as, unsurprisingly, the muscles in this area are put under significant strain during vaginal childbirth. Generally, regular continence is restored from around six weeks to three months after giving birth, however, in cases where there has been a particularly long, complex or difficult birth, multiple vaginal births or birth to larger babies, regular continence may not return without intervention.
Urge incontinence is caused when the detrusor muscles in the wall of the bladder don’t extend and contract in the way they normally should. Normally, the detrusor muscles expand as the bladder fills, and then contract as the bladder empties, in conjunction with the relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles. However, in cases of urge incontinence, the detrusor muscles contract irregularly, causing the sensation of needing to urinate, even when the bladder is empty or nearly empty. This is also known as an overactive bladder.
Mixed incontinence occurs when the symptoms of both stress and urge incontinence are present, and can be caused by a variety of conditions, including a combination of stress and urge incontinence conditions.
The Benefits of Emsella
The BTL EMSella is a unique treatment in the field of initimate health. It offers unparalleled and highly successful results, all whilst also being a completely non-invasive treatment option. Patients undergoing treatment can sit and relax, read a book or magazine, or chat to one of our friendly clinical staff whilst fully clothed and comfortable. This treatment allows for patients to obtain amazing results, without needing to go through any embarrassment or discomfort.
Our BTL EMSella treatments take less than half an hour per session and they are not painful in any way, meaning that your treatment experience with us will always be quick and comfortable.
The BTL Emsella targets the pelvic floor muscles directly, meaning this treatment will be effective for all three common forms of urinary incontinence (stress, urge and mixed). This makes this treatment significantly more effective than doing traditional kegel exercises, which can be time consuming, difficult to achieve and may take a long time to show any significant results. In fact, in more severe cases, traditional kegel exercises may actually be impossible to achieve naturally, due to severe weakness in the pelvic floor muscles. In severe cases, the BTL EMSella is an effective and painless treatment, which will result in quickly increasing the strength of the pelvic floor muscles and therefore drastically reduce the symptoms of incontinence without needing to resort to more invasive methods.
Emsella is unique among intimate health treatments as it offers highly successful results in a completely non-invasive treatment. Patients can sit, read a book or magazine, fully clothed while having an Emsella treatment, without any embarrassment or discomfort.
Emsella treatment takes less than half an hour per session, and is not painful, so your experience with us will always be quick and comfortable.
Emsella also targets the muscles directly, allowing the treatment to be effective for stress, urge and mixed incontinence. This makes the treatment a brilliant alternative to traditional kegel exercises, as they are time consuming, difficult, take a long time to have any significant effects, and in some more severe cases, aren’t actually possible, due to a severe weakness in the pelvic floor muscles. In these cases, Emsella is an effective and simple treatment to help increase the strength of the pelvic floor muscles quickly, and reduce the symptoms of incontinence.
